Grecian Goddess
Fawn
As a dance major, I am always inspired by pieces of choreography that I watch. One of the most inspiring and captivating for me was "The Afternoon of the Fawn" originally choreographed and starring the great Vaslav Nijinsky. The piece, however controversial and risque, is really quite beautiful in the imagery and shapes that it possesses. The story is about a group of Grecian or Egyptian women that are strolling along and they run into a fawn. While the other women more or less scatter, one stays behind and "befriends" the fawn. A relationship is more or less formed between the woman and the fawn and he falls in love with her. She leaves behind a scarf and he keeps it to remember her by. If you have a general interest in early modern dance or time during Diaghilev's Ballet Russes, this piece is a good watch.
The fashion in this piece is also something to be noted. I love the beauty of the woman's costume versus the pure nature and animalism of the fawn. I find so much fashion inspiration from this choreographic work!
Oh this is so so wonderful! Anything dance inspired is great for me!!!
